The Tods Murray summer law school is a unique opportunity to sample life as a
solicitor, whilst studying for your law degree. Whilst one to two week work
placements often involve work shadowing, our 8 week programme enables you to
obtain valuable exposure to various transactions, well beyond that which can be
achieved during shorter placements.
Summer Law School Duration and Salary
Our summer law school lasts for a period of 8 weeks, from Monday 7th July to
Friday 29th August 2008. We recommend that applicants are, at least, in their
3rd year of an Undergraduate LLB or in their 1st year of the Accelerated LLB.
Successful applicants joining us for the summer will be paid £270 per week
(£2,160.00 throughout the 8 week programme)
Summer Law School Programme
Our programme focuses on key elements;
1 Induction Programme
-
To maximise your time with us, we provide you with an intense induction
programme which helps you familiarise yourself with your new colleagues, the
environment, our IT systems and our day to day way of working.
-
In addition to getting to grips with our working environment, the induction
programme also gives you the opportunity to mix with other summer law school
participants, existing trainees and kick-start the social side of the programme
by getting involved in the extra curricular activities planned by our social
committee.
2 Departmental Placement
Whilst assigned to a specific department you will be involved in
various transactions, carrying out research, attending client
meetings, and in some cases working on a departmental project.
Of course, support will be available to you throughout the programme
and you will be assigned both a supervisor and “buddy” to provide
you with continual guidance. Placements are available within 8 of our
departments providing the opportunity to work on transactions in
a number of industry sectors including:
- Banking
- Charities
- Construction
- Employment and pensions
- Entertainment and media
- Hospitality and leisure
- IT/IP

3 Business Skills Development Workshops
We understand that a summer placement is a key element in your career
development and to maximise your time in this commercial environment, we will
provide a weekly workshop for you to help build on your business skill set.
Workshops on offer will include:

4 Traineeship Interview
Towards the end of the programme you will be offered a traineeship interview for
our traineeship contracts commencing 2010. Last year we made offers to 93% of
our summer students and as you can imagine, many were delighted to be returning
to university with the security of a traineeship under their belts.
