A Celebration of Ancient Trees - Art, History and Inspiration

“Ancient trees are precious. There is little else on earth that plays host to such a rich community of life within a single living organism.”
Sir David Attenborough

On 11th September, Tods Murray’s Rural Property and Business team were delighted to sponsor a reception at the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, to celebrate The Woodland Trust’s £1 million Ancient Tree Hunt Project.

The aim of this project is to create a living database of the UK’s ancient and historical trees that hold exceptional cultural and conservation value.  The campaign will also provide advice to owners of ancient trees, help influence policy and planning decision makers to ensure the best outcome for threatened trees and illustrate the value of ancient trees through various publications and events.

Linked to the project, an exhibition of rare, historical and inspirational prints and drawings of trees was displayed at the National Gallery of Scotland throughout September.  The reception offered a unique opportunity for the guests to view the exhibition with the Curator of Prints and Drawings on-hand to explain the pictures chosen for display.

John Fulton, head of the Tods Murray Rural Property and Business team, commented on the event “The Ancient Tree Hunt is a very worthwhile campaign.  The UK is home to some of the most ancient trees in Europe and, through The Woodland Trust, they will be given the care and attention they deserve.”
