Briefings

Gambling Law in Scotland

Speakers
Stephen McGowan
Rob Burkitt

The Gambling Act 2005 came into force on 1 September 2007 but since that time it has been somewhat overshadowed by the new Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. We intend to redress that imbalance by providing a useful overview of the system as it applies in Scotland, whilst also focusing on key areas which are causing concern. This briefing is specially designed to cater for licensing authority staff, licensing standards officers and of course gambling operators. There will be two speaking slots, with a question and answer session and a chance to network at the end.

Our speakers are Stephen McGowan, a member of our Hospitality & Leisure team, and author of the recently published "Licensing and Gambling Law in Scotland" (2009) as well as "Gaming in Pubs & Clubs: The New Law" (2008). We are delighted to confirm that the second speaker is Rob Burkitt, Policy Development Manager at the Gambling Commission, who will discuss the role of the Commission in Scotland. Rob is the lead officer for enhancing the Commission's work with local authorities, LACORS, COSLA and SOLAR. The Gambling Commission's regional compliance Officer for Scotland, Dougie Greenshields, will also be in attendance and will be taking part in our question and answer panel session at the end. For more information on the Commission, please visit http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
