Traineeships

Being a large commercial law firm, we have a comprehensive traineeship for aspiring lawyers in place.  We are fortunate to be able to offer seat allocations in all our departments, and trainees will normally rotate seats every six months during their traineeship in up to four different departments.  We also offer trainees the opportunity to take up a secondment with one of our major banking clients and we support trainees applying for the Law Society of Scotland EU secondment in Brussels.

Trainees are also encouraged to attend external courses run by the Scottish Young Lawyers Association, the Law Society of Scotland and other organisations

All trainees undergo a comprehensive induction training programme when they join us which includes legal training, IT training and workshops with various support departments.  The programme is designed to provide all the tools required to get trainees off to a flying start and, during the first month of each new seat a series of technical workshops will be given by their new colleagues, ensuring that they gain basic knowledge quickly and effectively.

During the traineeship, trainees will have the opportunity to attend a variety of lunchtime seminars, presented by either partners, associates or external speakers, on matters of interest within specialist fields.  These have proved very popular and are attended in large numbers by partners, solicitors and trainees.

We place great emphasis on fostering a friendly working environment and have an active Sports & Social and Charity Committees that create a steady stream of fun and rewarding activities for staff to become involved in.  Trainees usually play a full part in helping to organise events and in participating in many of the activities.

Tods Murray is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity. We recommend that all candidates with a disability should inform the firm during the recruitment process to ensure that any reasonable adjustments can be made where applicable.
