Health and Safety - Are there ever limits to what you can do?
To place health and safety at the centre of their procurement strategy, the Olympic Development Authority has recently announced that the existing Health and Safety Executive laws and regulations are not sufficient and that they will be developing their own more stringent health and safety requirements. Although this does not change the legal requirements by making it contractual it will place an additional burden on tendering and on managing contracts once awarded. It emphasises the importance of health and safety. If this approach is seen as successful it is likely that it will form the basis for future publicly funded projects.
