Tods Murray took on Army and won!

Eight of Edinburgh’s fittest legal specimens from Tods Murray solicitors successfully tackled the British Army’s gruelling Personal Fitness Assessment (PFA), with one of the recruits gaining entry to the elite '300 Club'.

The PFA is an age and gender based fitness assessment, designed to test upper body strength, core stability and the cardiovascular system.  Participants are required to complete press ups, sit ups and a 1.5 mile run within specified time limits.  The assessment is specifically tailored so that it makes the same physical demands irrespective of the age or sex of the participant.

The maximum score for each phase of the test is 100 points and this has given rise to the ‘300 club’.  Only a small percentage of the British Army manage to gain entry into the 300 Club and membership attracts much kudos and the respect of serving soldiers.

Andrew Bothwell, a commercial property partner in the legal firm, which is based at Fountainbridge, managed to score 300 with 61 sit ups, 51 press ups and a 1.5 mile run through the Meadows in 10 minutes.

But Andrew, who is a sporting enthusiast, put his energy to good use in order to clinch the honour, finishing within his 10 minute timeframe and earning him the title of Scotland’s fittest commercial property partner by his colleagues.

In addition, Senior Solicitor Sarah Channin became Scotland’s only Army fit female soldier after she was awarded the PFA honour alongside six of her fellow comrades.

Andrew Bothwell, who also heads up the regeneration group in Tods Murray’s planning and development team, said:

“I never thought I was going to pass the PFA, never mind actually gaining entry to the 300 Club given my advancing years ! However, a good level of fitness combined with the sheer grit and determination to endure a 1.5 mile sprint, is the key to success.

“I’m absolutely delighted to win the honour and I’m extremely proud of my colleagues who passed the PFA as we were raising money for Maggie’s – Tods Murray’s charity of the year. In only a couple of days, we raised in excess of £500 for our efforts.”
