Sale of Rhu Marina

Tods Murray’s Glasgow Corporate team successfully concluded the sale of Rhu Marina to The Crown Estate at the beginning of April after lengthy negotiations over a number of months.  This brought to an end a 27 year association with the marina for Glasgow Corporate partner Alistair Burrow.  During that time Alistair has helped a group of local businessmen nurse the idea of a marina at Rhu back from the brink of disaster following destruction in a storm of the original floating breakwater and the subsequent overnight collapse late in 1983 of the rock breakwater then under construction.  Having attracted a number of local businesses as well as HM Coastguard and the RNLI to the site, and established a regular clientele among yachting people, it is hoped that following the sale The Crown Estate will take forward ambitious plans for the development of the marina and for the site generally, with the local plan now encompassing proposals for housing on the site on Rhu Bay.
